Game Freezes

Update notice

Symptoms

  • The game becomes unresponsive to input, maybe you can still hear the music/sound effects but you can't interact with the game.
  • Clicking anywhere often (but not always) puts a white overlay on top and displays a Windows dialog if you want to wait or close the program.

Let us know (if you can) via the F3 tool

If it is possible, try to send an in-game report by pressing F3. The closer the feedback is to what caused the issue the better for our investigation.


Fixes

Before you start

Game freezes are often not connected to a single event or a particular action but seem to appear randomly. Therefore it's important that you try out on fix and give the game a go for a 10-15 minutes to see if it had an effec.


Turn VSync Off inside the game

Settings > Video > VSync Mode


Change Window Mode "Fullscreen Window"

Settings > Video > Window Mode


Update your GPU drivers

Do this from the manufacturer’s site (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) or via the installed application.


Disable Fullscreen Optimisations

  1. Open Steam - Right click on Tavern Keeper > Manage > Browse local files
  2. A File Explorer window opens, right-Click on Tavern Keeper and choose Properties
  3. Compatibility > Check “Disable full-screen optimisations”

Disable Windows Game Bar

Turn off Game Mode and Xbox Game Bar in Windows Settings (Windows Key + I) and select the Gaming category on the left.


Disable the Discord Game overlay

Discord > Settings > Game Overlay


Disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling

  1. Press the Windows + I keyboard shortcut to open Settings.
  2. Select System > Display > Graphics settings. Then switch the button under Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling to Off.
  3. Restart your computer to let this change take effect
